Oh I have the receipts, but keeping them ALL safe and knowing which ones are paper Vs in an email is where I'm less good at remembering. So cross referencing the bank statement just ensures I don't miss anything and thus lose out on a tax deductible expense.

I'm not VAT registered, nor anywhere near the threshold but I take your point that if that is a short term likely scenario then start as you mean to go on.

I photograph the paper receipts and they go into the same folder as the email ones. Back this up to the cloud and you’re good.

Agree re cross referencing the bank statement, but I do this last thing. Usually the ones I find are the bloody builders merchants who I constantly have to hound for a vat recipe after them promising to send via email when I place the order on the phone.

Buisness banking isn't really that expensive in the greater scheme of things, 35p a transaction with NatWest if you're PAYG.

Do use sage for accounts, so anything that's not allocated, invoiced or recorded flags up as something to fix.

@doobin 3.3% is a far flung dream these days isn’t it! Glad plenty of others have had the same idea re a personal bank account-I’m pretty good at keeping my receipts/invoices etc but having a second paper trail wouldn’t hurt.

Nice thing about a small personal loan is I can repay it as quick as I want, and maximum interest I’ll get charged is 58 days worth, I’ve got no interest paying it off long term, I would much rather have the kit debt free as quick as I can
