I have just cut down a Berberis Shrub which was around 15 feet high and was made up of several trunks all around 6 inches diameter. I have an open fire and wondered if it’s possible to burn the wood next year. Due to the yellow colour of the sap I am concerned that it might give off poisonous fumes when burning. Can anyone advise me please as I can find nothing on line to help.

Many thanks

Hi

No it would be on an open fire in our living room. It would be dry as I wouldn’t be burning it for at least a year.

Thanks

It will be fine. The idea is that the fumes go up the chimney. We burn Yew, and other poisonous species of tree and live to tell the tale.

Many thanks for your help, very much appreciated.

Just about the only wood I don't burn is old pressure treated or painted stuff as they contains all sorts of nasties. Anything natural gets dried and burnt.
