I've been thinking of giving them a good soaking then wrapping perforated microwave clingfilm round them so they can still breathe but seals them up a bit more...

Once the mycelium get into the wood they'll create a root system through its structure drawing water up...

It's a little tricky at the moment though as we keep getting warm dry spells during the day and cold and damp later on...

The ground seems to be holding water though so they'll get a good start :D

They mycelium seem to be making a start on the Pearl Oyster and Chicken of the Woods... Shiitake seem a little slow but are making a start too :D

Had them wrapped in clingfilm for a few days and it seems to have helped, I thought they were drying out so took the film off to check. They weren't drying out but seemed comfortably moist...

I've re-watered them and I'm going to re-wrap in a day or two...

All looking good!!

Well it's been some time since I started these off but glad to say the Pearl oysters have sprouted!!!!!

I haven't been near the house since towards the end of last year whilst it's been refurbished, but took a peek outside and the Pearl oysters were sprouting out of all sides of the log, I picked a few, sadly didn't have my phone with me at the time but all looking good...

Here's a couple of pics of what I brought back:

They're on average about the size of a 20 box of cigarettes/fags...

And just as thick, seem quite meaty and the gills are well formed, placed them gill side down on the draining board for about 5 minutes and it was covered in spores...
