Never too easy to tell, my first thought was common lime.

I can never tell either. Only easy one for me to identify is European lime

Yes Common Lime being a hybrid has the problem of epicormic growth at the base of the trunk normally. We have a fairly old large leafed lime, it doesn't have that problem. I think large leafed lime have a darker coloured leaf from what I have seen.
