if you have to move your rope around the tree whilst your climbing then all those knots may get stuck which isnt great.

also in the event of a wasp or bee attack you may not want to have to undo all the knots on the way down, unlikely i know.

Thats true!

so one stopper knot, grigri and prusik is safe enough in your opinion?

Is it more dangerous with knots?

I just make them to prevent a bigger free fall

I think probably it is more dangerous. Lots of instances where you might want to get out of a tree quick or with one hand. It's  certainly not safer. It's just not required.

sorry i cant comment on a grigri as a havent used one.

you could try and hunt out some other recreational climbers in your area, might be a good way to learn and fast track your climbing skills

I used gri gri, never backed it, still a live, hovever I prefer rope on rope stuff, so I think just use grigri or prussik, or figure 8,enjoy climb, don't make it over complicated, or use 2 ropes then. Imagine you climbing old Pine tree, they have short sharp dry sticks, you got injured, you bleeding hardly, and there u have prussik, grigri, and god damn knots below you, you will die on that rope safely 😇

A Petzl Rig has a panic stop feature not found in a GriGri.

Why not just use 3 ropes and three independent devices?

Is 3 enough while rec climbing?

I am not serious.

Is tree climbing fun with all that worry?

My take, get a regular, modern climbing device, not a GriGri or Rig.

In 30 plus years of climbing, I haven't experienced these concerns, and I'm known for my safety-sense.
