Air compressor leaking air from elec cable?

Alright folks

 

I have a  clarke raider 15/1000 air compressor, not done an awful lot and in good nick.

 

Trying to blow a tyre up on sat and i had moved it to a different shed than usual and after a short space of time u heard air blowing out from it.

Its coming from the box where the on/off switch is and coming out the hole that the electrical power cable comes out.

I must admit i was stretching the cable a wee touch to get to the plug but not too bad.

 

Just wondering why air is leaking out there? Prob only 2 bar of pressure when it started leaking out. I can't imagine the elecrical cables are connected to the air circuit ?

From memory, my compressor had a similar thing. 

Isolate the power and inside the box is a sprung loaded valve that switches the motor off wen it reaches a set pressure say 8 bar.

The outlet from the cylinder could have blown a bit of muck or rust up there and spoilt the seal.  Especially if it's not been drained of water

 

I jus let al the air out and unbolted the assembly and had a good clean up.

There is probably a pressure switch on that box and it has a thick sealing diaphragm in it. It has probably split.

Happened to mine and replaced it - wasn't a Clarke but similar.

Aye i done a bit of googling and think it is the pressure switch, alwys he way when u need something thou

I got a spare generic unit off eBay that many compressors seem to use and it did the job - keep one spare now.
