Anyone else been reading they plan to remove 54k hectares of non native pines in an attempt to save water resources I wonder what they plan on doing with all that lumber .with all the talk of climate change it seems daft in a way as newly planted replacement native species might not do that well with the unpredictable weather

Its in South Africa in the Western Cape region, they have had a severe drought and the non-native pines remove huge amounts more from the water table than the native plants, so actually the natives are likely to be more drought resistant and just better environmentally all round. Another ecosystem messed up by planting invasive non-native species.

Bet fire wood prices hit rock bottom tho !
