Hi Guys

 

A friend and I are starting to offer forestry services but are wondering exactly what insurance we need. At the moment it'll mainly be private land where we'll be felling and clearing as needed. Presumably the minimum we need is public liability but there seems to be a lot of options and I'd rather not be sold something that I don't need. I'm sure we'll need to add to it as the operation grows but really just looking to make sure we're legal to start with.

Public liability isn’t actually a legal requirement for starters, but very wise to have. And of course you’re never going to get any commercial customers if you dont have it.

 

in the meantime if you want to go and fell a few trees in Mrs mugging garden without it then carry on. You will just he personally sued if you happen to fell a tree on someone’s head.

 

Employers liability is a legal requirement on the other hand. If you have anyone under your supervision you need this

I believe if there's two of you on the job and you're not immediate family then you will come under employers liability umbrella one way or the other, as Steve says legal requirement.

What about working at hight. I have pub lib for maintenance but only covered to 10m

Then don’t go to 11m and give yourself a bit of leeway on the ten so stay at nine to be safe!

I think you just need to discuss what you are doing with some insurers and then they will work out a tree surgery policy. Mine was only to 5m I think, until they had seen my CS38 certificate then unlimited.
