hi I think the Hornet Moth larva leave a 8mm hole and are kicking around for 2 years in the wood....i would have thought u would have seen one in the galleries?I am no expert but Hornet Moth sounds about right.

Hi Matt I posted up a thread on here about clearwing borer. try putting Clearwing Borer in the search.

does the saw dust in the holes give off a goat like smell? the goat moth is more than capable of doing damage to the tree and causing rot. and from what i've read they prefer poplars.
