Estimated Life Of Trees

Does anybody know of a reference for estimated life of trees by species, i am sure the FC did a pdf but cant find it.

You might wish to try the CAVAT handbook ( London Tree Officer's Association - Capital Asset Value for Amenity Trees (CAVAT) )or the Helliwell system handbook - both contain estimated life expectancy for tree species.

Thats great, thanks for the reply, there was a spread sheet as well with differing species and there estimated life span, was a really good pdf...

Its impossible to age a tree without a core, accuratley that is.

 

so many things influence a trees aged appearance and even girth when young semi mature. One trees rings may be considerably larger than the next, even of the same species

 

genetics, location/environment, fungi all influence growth and age/stress factors

Lucky if you can get that long out of the poor stock, poorly planted into very hostile growing environments that we see every day down here in SE Qld. :>(

Yep, what i am after is for trees in a woodland setting....

 

For instance

 

Birch avg life is 60-70 years

sycamore avg life is 100 years

 

etc etc.....

Beech 300 years oak up to a thousand

 

sycamore in woodland not so sure but probably right though in open field situations they last a great deal longer, theres a pair of corkers, one in a field in wales and another on adrians wall.
