He was a Scottish Botanist. I know I sound like a pendant but successful Scots always seem to be labelled British when it suits the English.

 

 

David Douglas’s three expeditions to America were funded by the Horticultural Society of London (now the Royal Horticultural Society), so a bit of a British connection you might say as a botanist although of course Scottish.
