A little bit of Monkeyd redemption......

 

Aka..........Mountain Ash - Roan - Roddan - Rantry - Wild ash - Quickbeam - quicken tree - Wild sorb - Witchen tree - Witchbane - Witchwood - Thors Helper (that's a good story)- Ran tree - Sorb apple - Delight of the Eye & Lady of the Mountain to name but a few.

 

Can endure for up to 200 years.

 

 

Here's my personal favourite descript.......

 

according to Greek legend the birth of the rowan was precpitated by the actions of Hebe, the daughter of Zeus & Hera and the goddess of youth, who had the power to make the old young again. She was the cup-bearer to the gods and filled their cups with sweet nectar. Yet Hebe was lax in her duties and lost the cup of Zeus when it was stolen by demons. Great concern raged over this and the gods sent a special eagle to deal with the demons and recover the cup. A fierce battle ensued between the eagle & the demons, and wherever an eagles feather or a drop of blood fell to earth, there grew a rowan tree. This is believed to be the reason why rowan has feathery leaves and berries like drops of blood.

The flowers which blossom around may to june:

 

The berries which appear around late summer/early autumn and ripen october/november

 

Like the good old saying goes, a picture = a thousand words..........well i just like them.

The Rowan grows around the area of the Artic circle here my missus family are from. Her dad uses the berries to make an extremely tart marmalade. Along with mixing the berries with 70 percent proof spirit or home made vodka to produce a rather nauseating version of Aquavit.
