hakki 1x37 easy problem

I seem to be having a problem with my Hakki processor.

the chainsaw seems to have a recurring problem with cutting down through the log.

this first happened about a week ago and on that occasion i fitted a new bar and chain and this cured the problem. the old bar had processed around 5 artic loads of softwood.

now one week on and the same is happening again after cutting around 20m3 of wood

I've noticed that the paint is worn off the bar along the cutting (lower) edge approx half way along the bar but no where else.

I have tried turning the bar but to no avail

both bars were oregons and the chain is sharp

I've also noticed that one of the three v belts that drives the saw has become twisted but not sure if this is affecting the above problem.

any advice anyone?

"sorry mate not sure what u mean, dont you want to cut down through the log??

you will need to be very specific with the fault on this problem as they are varied before i can help "

the chain and bar will only cut into the log up to the top of the bar i.e. 3" to 4"

"Is there "slop" on the bearing on which the bar moves up and down? take the belts off and feel for play, sounds like its trying to twist in the cut."

there is no unusual movement in the bearing

apart from a bit of paint coming off what is the fault. Is the bar wearing out. Could "be an oil problem, clean the tank or are you cutting alot of small stuff. "

the bar is new, been on a week and cut about 20m3 (loose)

as Tom says it feels like the saw is pinching in the log

the bar does not look bent.

what do i need to look for on the bar if that is the problem?

ok check the bar groove for any excessive wear to widen the groove

check the sproket for any unusual wear

check the chain drive links for any excessive wear

check chain teeth to all be sharpened to same angle and size

check depth gages for same

check the chain is the CORRECT pitch for the bar

if your 37 is like my 42 then the chain sharpening HAS to be spot on, the head wont flex like a chainsaw in your hand

wear in the bar and sprocket will twist the chain to cut at an angle and the bar will not go down through the wood as will a chain with a smaller pitch than the bar

when i get this problem (usually when the teeth are at half life) i take the chain off and but it on the chainsaw and replace with a new chain

i had the same problem for months and found it to be the sproket

hope this helps

many thanks for the input

i've just carefully checked the bar and it looks like one side of the groove has sustained some damage that might be enough to put a bend into the cut. will replace with a new one and see what happens

will let you all know the outcome.

cheers

Not sure if its relevant but I have a hakki 2x I can bolt the cutting bar assy in such a fashion that it does not cut 90 degrees to the log has this happened. Hope this makes sense. If not let me know I will try again. The other thing to look at is when I sharpen teeth, one side is always smaller as the chain wears this gets worst and you cut at an angle which the machine wont allow like a hand held chain saw.

update:

have fitted a new jonsered bar

now works perfectly both with new chain and old chain

to my untrained eye there looks to be minimal damage to the old bar if any.

the damage is done when cutting the bigger diameter timber...the cut end falls into the chute then rebounds back up and strikes the the bar / chain

Steve.. I think with my model it would be hard to mis mount the bar as long as it is seated correctly and the two retaining bolts are secure. Although there is always a first time for everything!

woth regard to chain wear...after how many hours use do you notice the size difference? I have not noticed this myself but then 99% of what I cut is softwood

Is the splitting ram retracting enough or are u releasing it to quickly.

The adjustment I have is much further into my machine I can adjust the entire cutting arm including the sprocket and belt pulley. so instead of the bar being verticle it is slightly cantered, go the wrong way and you will cut the log into a wedge shape.
