Budget splitter...

O.K, a colleague, at who's yard I dump my wood, used the splitter for the first time today.

In his initial opinion, performance wise, it is as good as the professional AMR road tow splitter he regularly hires in.

Plus he saved a mornings hire...

Last night I Amazoned an hour counter, for engine maintenance intervals.

I like the sound of that. Which one did you go for?

Previously, I've used Tiny Tach but we've had 2 fail, one at 7hours so I thought I'd try this make for no good reason tbh.

Did a couple of hours myself this arvo.

Security is a bit clunky and ungainly but it runs, splits and I've no complaints.

I'll get Didier to look at overriding the gangly bar I've to swing down before pulling on the descent lever.

Hydro oil gets rather warm even though it was zero today. Think that might be an issue in the Summer? Wrap a wet rag around the chassis tank perhaps. Still, somewhere to warm gloves on cold days.

My hashed-up by-passing of the 2 handed operation was initially at the vauge advice of the guys at Rock who for legal reasons sent me a silent whatsapp vid of what to remove. Namely the level on the left you initially pull down and retracting the spring and inserting a R-pin or split pin. But it never worked and I had to put it back together again.

I think what I did was remove or adjust the stop for the operating handle, I cant quite remember, but I might have a picture on my phone, I'll if I can find it. Has been working fine since the first week of ownership, which must be close to a year now.

The oil does get quite hot but never seems to get excessively hot, even in the Summer. Well, the Scottish Summer anyway, all 4 days of it. 😧

Tacho arrived.

Looks to be superior to the TinyTachs I've used since 2008.

Replacable battery and the option of resetting. Also comes with multiple fixing options of sticky velcro or screws. 2 zipties for the cable. To install, you just wrap the cable around the HT lead.

That looks a good idea think I should put / try one out as I’ve got a few engines running although I do service them regardless once a year . I did a simple fix on the two handed operation works fine .

His operation is very different than yours. Handles on the opposite side of the machines. Far simpler to just remove a bolt.
