Cleaning chipper blades

The 426 is available but never really took off in a 'mass market ' way. Swinging hammers on an open drum manner, definitely not a chipper.

Trouble with this is twofold- one, you will readily abrade the metal, and this on the mating face is not ideal. Two, flap discs clog very easily, and this would be as bad as millscale for clogging.

 

Give one of these a go, I reckon it would be much better suited. We use them a lot for cleaning and polishing up cement trowels, which is a similar application.

I bought one of these wet stones decades ago to sharpen my joinery chisels. Great piece of kit and still going strong and never burnt an edge. I will probably try this to restore an edge on my chipper blade. If the blade is too hard then I will let the saw centre sharpen it.

 

Change the wheel out for a CBN one and you will never look back. Only thing with the Tormek is that it's so slow- will probably take an age to do a blade.

 

There are some Chinese blade grinders on eBay that come with CBN wheels fitted- might be worth a look. You can run CBN much faster than wetstone and it still cuts cooler and sharper.
