[QUOTE=Eddy_t;836149]Patience comes with age, much YOU have appeared to have gained since the 1st post... Where as I am youthful and have less of a concept of it :P

As for tree time, nobody has the mentality or conception to fathom this properly, only by looking at what is already done can we get a rough idea of what we aim for

Ah but you will. I occasionally take a look at a tree I worked on maybe 25 yrs prior just to see how it's getting on or not:001_smile:

Take a look at old pollards. Only by understanding what's in the past may we understand what's in the present.

Sorry about that. It's the wine and the woodstove that caused it:001_smile:

Good beech reduction.

I wasnt digging you out fella, just replying to the comment of it being a long time coming for a re shoot of the beech, 2 years is a good time dont you think?

I have worked VERY hard to understand tree time, and so have many others, it isn't an easy thing to study and get to grips with, you have to see special trees in special sites to get a true understanding. You can take it as a given that I have a better understanding of tree time than most!:001_rolleyes:

This I understand, and you and David H have my upmost respect in your work, I hope one day I am even half as good as you both in basic tree management and conservational tree management, IMO the work you did at the beginning of this thread looked perfectly reasonable, you could have gone a lot harsher! I think we as arbs forget how resilient trees are, how much punishment they can take, and yes, two years is perfectly reasonable, but I would have liked to see the first year, I always feel you can spot where you can next work upon after seeing the first regrowth, I would say the tree seems to have a denser regrowth and a better shape now
