Epiphytes.

It was in Costa Rica on the pacific lowlands. The cloud forests and caribean coasts had a much more stable climate with a more consistent moisture content in the air. The guy we did this for explained that the seasonal variations in this area produced an environment for these epiphetes which is more hostile than most desets. I can't remember to many of the ins and outs but I think most of these orchids had a symbiotic relationship with ants. Anyway it was an interesting and slightly geaky weeks work.

I wish I could find the bromeliad photos I took. Poison dart frogs would lay eggs in the water holes in the center then lay sterile eggs to feed the tadpoles. We saw an Eyelash viper in a flowering bromeliad, most likely waiting for a humming bird. I wish I'd had a digital camera back then.

Cool pictures:001_smile: I need to get back over to Staverton as they have epiphyte trees hollys and silver birch growing in old oak pollards. There is a Rowan growing in an old oak and if you time it right the rowan is in full leaf and the oak leaves are just coming out :001_smile:

This photo was taken up a Beech tree right next to Burrator reservoir on Dartmoor. There is a lot of moisture in the air around there as it is next to the waterfall where it flows over the dam.

Loads more photos but they won't fit. Too high quality :(
