Hi Guys

Can anyone with or have used the landrover type Mewps with the telescopic boom on them explain to me about the boom swinging wider than the footprint of the machine? or are the new type better? I would like to use one on the road for pruning but thinking they will be no good if the boom sticks out with the possibility of a car hitting it... Picture attached

I think the one in the picture is only 12 metres ? The older type are 14.5 which I use , basically you just put the main boom up first so it’s upright and won’t be in the road , not ideal always for lower stuff.

Ok looking on eBay they are 13.5 one advert is saying they are 14.5 and that definitely is not the case.
To be honest the one in your photo above looks better suited to road work than the slightly larger one as the booms a lot shorter.

I had the scissor boom, great for fixing gutters, not for tree work.

Boom gets in the way, everything falls straight bellow after 6m and there’s a no man land you can never get to from around ground to about 4m.

I’ve got a cpl lift on a hilux and never have an issue with the boom on roadside work. As said just raise the bottom boom up and you can almost touch the floor with the top boom fully down and full telescopic out.
