Why anybody continues to import firewood or trees from  Europe is beyond me. Don't do it.

The majority of trees and plants you see in nursery’s all over the UK are imported, it’s been like this for decades.
The kiln dry wood from the Baltic states is cheap, so better margins, who cares about the working conditions of the cutters and welfare of European Forests, right?

It is not coincidental that the huge Black Hole of Kent which is the Sandwich Bio Mass plant is situated on the Thames, direct cheap Baltic imports from day one.

Not just Baltic imports. I was chatting to chap yesterday who was talking about eucalyptus chip from New Zealand ending up there too.

There is a mountain of chip regularly at the docks at Shoreham, near Brighton, god knows where that’s imported from.

Wasn’t  it the war criminal Tory Blair that changed the legislation surrounding illegally felled timber so that we could import it? And we import more timber than any other EU country I was led to believe.

We are the second largest importer of timber in the world, after China.

Having spoken to many importers of timber from around the world, it's a mafia business, run by organised crime.
Buying a train load of wood from Eastern Europe or Russia, its mafia controlled.
SE Asia, AP&P mafia.
S America mafia logging.
Africa....

Refurbishment of the Houses of Parliament a few years back...
Illegally sourced tropical hardwood.
And that's just the wood.

Why not just buy ash which would otherwise go for chip and less co2 miles? Get a deal on some lorry loads and perhaps hire someone in with a commercial processor  which will get it market ready .

However cheap wouldn’t touch anything coming from Romania the timber mafia have been exposed on international news having been upto no good after killing a few forest rangers . its estimated that yearly 20million cubic meters of timbers  is  cut there illegally.links here for anyone that’s interested
