Wood ident

Hi could anybody tell me what type of wood this is please i know it's a hardwood but don't know the variety

It looks a bit like khaya mahogany but a better picture would help with ID. Also a picture of the end-grain as Steve on here will be able to tell you for sure with a good clear picture.

i can't give you an exact species as there are so many lumped in the group that this comes from but i can say that it is most likely from the dark red meranti group in the genus Shorea.

 

i would presume that the wood is relatively hard and heavy?

Yeah it is quite heavy and hard,i like the look of it just don't know what to do with it yet[emoji106][emoji16]
