Teak shelving

Started with old Teak Lab benches from a school, 6' 6" long by about 52" wide the joints between the individual planks had started to fail, and some of the planks were a tad cupped and warped.

I merely sanded down with 60 grit, to take a boiled Linseed oil finish, and absolutely minimized wastage.

Anyway the back toilet/utility area was a perfect fit in that the narrow dimension was about 6' 3"  wide and using a 12" wide(being 2 still soundly jointed planks) top shelf at one end left the lengthwise span just a squeak under 6'6".

The individual planks were random widths, from 6" to about 9.5", I simply sorted them to "fit" as best possible, and I have still to tidy up the resulting, somewhat untidy projecting corners.

The only problem was the space was NOT square, remarkedly off-sq in fact, which combined with the various capped and warped planks made it more of a challenge to fit.

The 3 sets of gable ended short shelves were cut from 2 planks with zero wastage, and the gable ends were one particularly warped plank cut in 1/3rds, though I did require to plane one face true(ish) to allow the butt joint.to mate up.

The cupping can be seen in the corner  joint above the door hinges,(it really needed cramped, but I missed it) but I got the other 3 corners better trued at least.

I could put the entire wastage in a coat pocket.

All butt joints are floating tenons.

Anyway, see images.

My next project is a set of curved doors for beneath the curved stonework for the washbasin in the daughters en-suite
