Good question. I was struggling with that one also and resorted to asking mr Humphries. Didn’t take thorough photos though so it was a guess on his part as one of the saprobic Agaricus species

Really interesting to see the rate and spread of decay over the years.  Am I right in reading into this that the roots were sounded 4 years ago and were ok then? 4 years for them to deteriorate to such an extent that it's not deemed safe to retain seems scarily quick.

 

Will be interesting to see the whole spread of decay when it comes down.

Actually the last test was 2 years ago, I missed out that image. Yes the roots were sounded with a mallet and 2 years ago they were fine, at least audibly. Its been quite a quick deterioration.
