Tree eating monster visited, what to do next

Question

I was away for two weeks, during those two weeks I came back to the sight of a load of my trees running along the track to my house have been cut / devastated by what I presume is a flail mower. Think my trees on the right were done by mistake as they were clearing the ditch on the left and there is no ditch on the right where my trees are.  Accidents happen, so not going to make a big deal of it.

My question is what do I do with those ugly flailed tree tops:

I could just leave them, but there are ugly.

Chainsaw them at the start of the chewed up bit.

Chainsaw them at ground level

None of the above.

Cheers

Update, so was clearing away some of the devastation trees on the ditch side for my firewood stock, happened to block the road with some logs so no one could get up or down, anyways the person who employed the contractor was driving down, stopped, got out of the car and apologised saying it was a mistake, she had told them to cut the left hand side thinking they would start at the top unfortunately they started at the bottom, so wrong left!!! Although the ditch should have been a big clue.

Anyways we have asked that at the very least they should come back and tidy it up, remove or chip the brash.

So to coppice it do I just Chainsaw them about 6” up from the deck?

Cheers

Aye, but if you have bad rabbits or deer they will Chong it. If rabbity you may want to cut it higher than 6'' , possibly more like 18''. As for deer probs just as high as possible.

Probably some actually hedgelayers or coppice workers will be able to advise you better than me like
