Anyone use the back handled 201 as a lightweight general purpose saw? Are they any good?
Yes. I love mine. Best on a 12''. Ideal for dealing with brash, coppice, sub 12'' stuff. Easy to swing about all day.

Joe, they are alot zingyer than the 180s and tend to last better also.

Are they £350 better?

Not looking at new, seen a three year old one for similar money to a 181. No logging, just something to use for very small trees, brashing and coppicing type work.

I'd prefer a used 201 to a new 180 by a awful lot

Pretty much. I know what your saying, you ever used a ms190t? I'd say they are the equivalent of a back handle ms180/170 . Bit plasticky, pita to work on, not very zippy, but numb but suppose will get the job done.

I use my mine as a ground saw and for carving. Went through 3 ms170s with carving before I got my 201.

£350 is a big difference, and for sure not worth it unless your going to use it alot ( not just a bit firewood). But I reckon when your topper needs changing next you'll buy the the best one, not the cheapest ( might have a ms190t you can buy cheap actually).

The 190 has a very restrictive baffle on the 'zorst. Guy I used to work with had one and it seemed such a pointless saw. We took the 'zorst off and had a look. We drilled a 9mm hole right opposite the exhaust port and the saw was transformed. It realy was a night and day difference.

Had it got a adjustable carb? Got a horrible feeling it might now, but cant remember.
