Cord Wood Price/Calculation

Hello All!

 

Long time lurker, first time poster. 

 

Im looking for a bit of help/advice on how to calculator the price of cord wood (cut at 4ft x 4ft x 8ft). I understand this can vary from Hardwoods/Softwods and unseasoned and seasoned wood but don’t know how to get to the final price of; 1 cord of x hardwood = £x seasoned and £x unseasoned.

 

Is there a “standard” on how to reach this?

 

Any advice/guidance would be greatly appreciated!

whats the reason for the question exactly? No one sells by the cord in the uk, usually goes by the ton or by cubic meters. I assume you are uk based from the use of £ signs

Thanks for the prompt reply! We cut and stack our wood in cords within our woodland for ease of processing. So if there’s a calculation to work out the value in cubic meters, I can always convert than into the cord wood value?

 

Is there a standard method to calculate the value in cubic meters?

Well if you're selling it by volume rather than weight I can't see you need a separate formula for seasoned or unseasoned

 

Be a simple case of converting feet to meters with an online converter then doing the maths

Measure the height and the depth of your stack in mtrs, times them together and then times that figure by the length of the stack in mtrs.

 

This will give you the volume of the STACK in cubic mtrs.

 

How much split wood you get out of the stack will depend on the diameter and straightness of the lengths.

 

There are probably people on here that can give you some rules of thumb.

Where are you?

 

Are you planning on selling to the end user?

 

Are you planning to season the wood.

We’re based in Surrey, selling direct to the end user and both depending on whether the customer would like to cut and season there own wood or cut and burn at their pleasure.

Ah, you're thinking of selling in 4ft lengths?

Prices vary drastically all over. Best bet would be to search local sites and see what they are charging. I'm guessing in Surrey it will be the higher end of the scale
