Anyone own a Jo Beau M500?

Thinking of getting one but most jobs are hilly or with bad access so use of Ramps is a must.

I have a stump grinder with electric drive and it can go up steep stuff and drive into the pickup.

 

How good is the drive on a M500?

Would it drive up into the back of the pickup? (folding ramps)

Pretty powerful, I drive my M500 up ramps into the trailer, admittedly that's lower than a pickup so I would say you'll need long ramps. Needs a bit of encouragement if raining or tyres slip on the metal but I guess that's more a problem with the ramps than the M500.

It's a big layout for a non feed roller chipper but for the same price my other option is an old road tow and for me that's not ideal just yet.

You could always buy my M300  and push it up into the pick up.  Any branches bigger can go for fire wood!? (arbtrader)

I've an m500 I need to move on, I need to have a look at it first though. Everything was fine when it went into storage but for some reason the drive isn't working at the moment. I'll see what I can sort of you're interested

Yes, I did a job with some helpers and I think some stones went through, or maybe it was just time. Anyway, blades smashed up and main bearings broken but new blades, bearings and belts (while at it) for a few hundred quid. Job easy to do myself and apart from the bulletproof Honda engine there is almost nothing else to it.

One of the things that put me off the £3k roadtow chippers is the amount that could go wrong in all the hydraulics, engine etc. At that price point I just feel they've had a long hard life and could easily need a lot spending.

If you can, buy Colettis 500, they don't come up secondhand all that often and you won't lose money if you put new blades on when it's time to sell in a few years.

I've got the M400. Weighs just over 200kg. I've got hilux pick-up with a chip box, tow the M400 on my ifor trailer and leave it on the trailer throughout the day unless I am chipping on site and roll it off. I have ramps to load onto trailer. Doddle to move around.
