Arborist Apprenticeship

Hi,

I recently applied for an apprenticeship as an arborist and have an interview next week.

I really want to get the apprenticeship as I know a career as an arborist would be something that I would really enjoy and no other career stands out to me as much as being an arborist does. So I was just wanted some advice about how I could stand out in the interview and just maximise my chances of getting the job.

Given how desperate we are for new blood in the industry I'd say just turning up to the interview will be a good start! If you can be on time and string a sentence together you'll be fine.

@donsamu  .....and ask lots of questions. No matter how stupid ( yr a beginner ) 'when can I get my trailer license' is better than 'when can I do big take downs'  or 'will someone be designated to mentor me' and ' can I take home a knackered saw to strip so I get how they work' sort of thing. K

Read all the information about the 'Arborist' standard (which I anticipate is the apprenticeship used) and its assessment plan which are on the apprenticeship service site. It's all about your willingness to learn and progress which, as you are here, is already clear to see. They are putting money into developing a new employee and they want to see their money well spent (and not have their time wasted by someone who isn't 100% committed, or drops out completely.)

As well as chainsaw tickets; you will also need to learn your tree id, tree pests and diseases, tree planting and aftercare during your apprenticeship; so lots to study and understand so show willingness to do so.

Good Luck.

......And your level 2&3 English, and your level 2&3maths, and compile a portfolio of evidence, and take tickets whether you want them or not, and attend training and undergo summative assessments, and take and end point assessment...... sometimes the Arb bit gets lost in the Qualifaction/funding whirlpool...... if you can find a good local employer who will take you on and focus on the tickets you and they want in your own time you can save yourself a lot of grief and be earning more money more quickly....
