Starting out

Recommended Posts

Just wanted some advice on buying a carving bar and chain.

Ive been carving mushrooms and toadstools, chairs and a few other things but i really want to practice and improve.

I use a standard 180 with a full chiz chain and a 150 with a full chiz chain.

Whats the best bar/chain combo to go for.

Go easy on me guys im new to this...

Personally a 12 or 14 inch quarter pitch bar for your 180 would be a good start and good all rounder. You'll need a 1/4 sprocket also. Cannon and sugi are good. Not used the Oregon or stihl ones

Yeah ive got a grinder but not sure if ive got the backing pad.thanks for the input mate?

You may want to have a look at the King Arthurs / Lancelot tool range for the grinder.  Also check out the Saburr carbide discs.  Found this link  https://www.toolpost.co.uk/pages/Carving_Tools/Power_Carving/power_carving.html  which may be of interest.  Good luck - be safe.
