Using a top handle saw from a mewp.

Cutting and holding from a mewp can be quite dodgey in that you are suddenly loading etra weight on. Bigger limbs I do what geoff said, let anther limb take the weight then gradually lift by hand and chuck

 

I few times in the very distant past I have nearly been pulled out of a mewp by cutting/holding a branch that was just a little to heavy!

I guess thats one of the reasons it's so important to make sure your properly attached to the machine! Saw someone lowering of a mewp once, scary!!!

I was under the impression CS47 was the ticket for using a top hander out of a MEWP if you didn't have CS39,or it was when i did my MEWP ticket.Your not climbing whilst using it an if you have a current MEWP ticket and the aforementioned CS unit there's no problem.

Ho hum chaps, you need a minimum of cs30 and 38/39 for rope and harness arbworks, and a minimum of cs30 and 47 for mewp arbworks ( obviously wiv a mewp ticket!), however there are too many crossovers and what ifs so its best to have every cs ticket you can get hold of! such as the little documented "any arborist doing areal arbworks MUST also have cs40/41." (AFAG 805 - training and certification)
