Hi there wonder if anyone can help. Was chipping up yesterday and when it came to turning off the chipper was a strange noise while running on low revs, was like a knocking/squeeking noise. Had a closer look today and when i turn the flywheel back and forth by hand there is a whirring noise coming from the main shaft into the engine ( which then drives the belts). Anyone had anything similar can offer me some advice maybe?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Second that on the bearings. Try pulling/levering the flywheel around the edge and see if you can feel any play. You will probably get a bit of a clunk as you rock it.

If you do a search on here there's loads of threads on this very topic. IIRC someone did a really good guide on repairing it - with lots of photos.

Good luck with it.

Morning Jack, bearings do sound like the issue. Heat from dry bearings can travel through the shafts and make the end plastic cap hot . The nose shaft nut can get even too hot to touch. If you slacken off the belts tensioner and actually remove them from the pulley you can spin the rotor wheel easier and will more likely hear and feel the rumble. Where are you ? I can put you in touch with experienced technicians. Gareth.
