My first harness was made by Barrow Hepburn the GT76. No leg loops and no padding, the only safety feature was if you could see red through the grey webbing, it had been strained! The harnesses where made in Battersea and where basically a copy of the USA climbing saddle. But did the job In the early seventies.
Minimum order was only 100 a time.

Great article.Climbing kit is entirely personal and you see every concievable combination out there but the harness is like a favourite chair.I still have my Willans T22 somewhere (Full body).Had a couple of Weavers then a couple of Tree Austria and settled on a Sequoia for the last few years.Fantastic pictures by the way.

Thanks for your compliment on the pictures, Silky Fox. Always got an appetite for good images so if you have any... please send them to us!

We never knew how many people loved the Weaver harnesses until they were discontinued. Still a lot of fans out there.

That is because they never wore out, I think I climbed in mine for 8 or 9 years, only changed it as I thought I should, not because it needed changing, it was comfy and bomb proof..

When you are spiked onto pole with a steel core attatched to a weaver, you are going nowhere.Locked into work position.Strongest webbing/stitching i have ever seen on a harness

I’ve been climbing for 17/18 years, on my second weaver (6 years old), I love it!
