Spotted this Plane tree today in Headcorn. Does anyone know why it would grow like this?

Thickening of the trunk wall, brought on through 'bottle butt' in response to basal decay.

The Butt of the Tree looks a bit like a bottle.

Where the natural stem taper is altered due to compensatory thickening around localised decay
