My splicing attempts

Looking good ben. I'd personally put the whipping closer to the eye though mate!! Haha.

 

I had my eye to eye armour pruss destruction tested today. On a straight pull it broke at...........2.78 tonnes!!! I think once that's doubled up ina hitch it should be safe enough!! Haha. That was a class one double braid splice too.

 

Nice work mate! thats an awsome break! Class 1 as well!!

 

How long are you bury's?

I think the reason I struggled getting them any closer was because I didnt reduce the volume of the cover enough. But that should make the splice stronger right?

I don't have a problem whipping that Marlow cord, how many strands did you take out from the cover?

I couldnt tell you exactly. But using a 7"7/8 bury. Count 8 strands up to make mark T (in the samson instructions) and then I counted up every 5 strands. To the end of the cover marking every 5th. I then removed one from each pair of strands at each mark and one from the pair of strands going the other direction above the marked pair.

 

Afterwards, I thought maybe I should gone for the 4/5/4/5 etc. or just taken both pairs out fully. But I wanted to continue with the same method to keep some continuity in the friction cord.

Cheers HighScale! Am I right in thinking that they should in theory be stronger the more cover you leave in? I would quite like to get them destruction tested now. Just curious. Thanks for the tip!

Impressive mate! Are all the AP ones you do class 1? I heard somewhere AP can be done as a class 1 or 2 but that 2 was a bit stronger..

 

Any ideas where I can get some of my splices destroyed, for peace of mind?

 

I trust them, but I just want to know they are much stronger than a bowline for sure.

Cheers mate and yeah all mine are class ones. Technically it should be a class 2 splice as its a core dependant splice but with the above figures im quite confident a class one splice will be adequate enough for a friction hitch! haha.

Ive not forgot about the pictures either mate its just that i dont have a laptop and for some reason my stupid i-phone wont upload them to facebook! Ive tried emailing them too but it wont send them that way either for some reason:confused1:. I'll just have to send them to your phone for now bud.
