Looking at better ways of handling IBC crates of logs. Our little compact tractor can handle a crate of wet logs but I would like to fit a rotator and it could never handle the extra weight. So looking for the smallest tractor that could take a tonne on the loader. Dont want to have a large tractor as all our barns, gateways and turning spaces are small.

Thanks

Do you really need a box rotator  ?

1  -  Pick the ibc up with pallet forks wrap a 5000kg strap around the crate & pallet  fork back so the ibc wont slide off when you           tip the forks ( tip the ibc forward ) this will get 50% of the timber out without the crate sliding off the forks & then man                     handle what is left in the box.

2  -  take an ibc crate chop the front side out wrap a couple of straps right around the crate to hold it together, fill it with fire                   wood the straps should act as a guide to hold sticks in the crate, when your ready to empty the crate repeat step number 1,           this may save the expense of a new tractor & loader to lift a ton

3  -  I bet a black-smith could make a dead light attachment to tip a box under gravity

I had a Yanmar ym1610 that would piss that with a loader on, especially if you’d had left the flail on the back

Googling the yanmar ym1610 comes up with a machine weight of 679kg. Not sure how that would ever handle a ton hanging over the front! My tractor is 3500kg and yes it will lift a ton on the flat without counterweights- but would be very sketchy travelling over undulating ground etc and have had it trying to buck over the front axle particularly if I turn the steering hard and change the pivot point. It needs counterweight for sure. I really can’t see any tractor weighing less than this being sure footed enough with a ton on the loader unless it has near on equivalent on the back from my experience.

Handlers and dedicated loaders are much better geared up for front weight what with engine being at the rear and nice heavy counterweight as standard.

Thanks for the ideas. Looking around I dont think any tractor that can handle a tonne on the loader is going to be small enough and manoeuvrable enough around our yards and buildings. A mast on the back sounds like a nice idea but lot of hassle to put on and off and I dont fancy having to look behind all the time. Back to the drawing board.

Came across this which would be perfect for crate handling in our small yards and sheds but no tractor replacement. Pretty much what gdh was suggesting I guess and back into Mulitone money but probably better for the task at hand.

Our Kubota ME5700 will handle a ton on the front loader no problem. It's also a very handy tractor with an excellent turning circle, you simply won't beat Kubota for tight turning with 4wd.

Somehow overlooked this.

Do you know what the turning circle of yours is? I cant find it online

Looks like I may need to find a solution sooner rather than later as I have just broken off the front wheel of the poor little tractor :(

Oh no! Doesn’t look good- what was the cause of that do you thinking, excessive loader work?

i looked at turning circles of the Kubota ME5700 and I think it was just under 6m full circle dia. My Same by comparison is just over 6m on paper. they are similar size tractors in dimension but Same has an extra 30hp and weighs another ton or so.

that Kubota could be a good option for you I think if your not in need of much more HP, as long as you have a good counterblock.

Yes probably excessive loader work was the cause. Wasn't doing anything out of the ordinary at the time though.

Its hard comparing all the various machines and how they will work. Turning circle is one thing but then there is loader overhang to take into account. I looked up the Same but it seemed a bit big but surprised it's turning circle is as good as the Kubota so will take another look at it. A dedicated loader would be a boon though as I could leave the tractor with forestry trailer hitched up and move and stack the crates as I go along. Never been short of grunt with our little tractor at 55hp just need more weight and substantial build.

Oh lord it's dong my head in and not the  best at putting my hand in my pocket at the best of times xD
