I read the anti-tank pillboxes were built for 2 pounders (which turned out to be door knockers), the replacement 6 pounders didn't fit in em.

I think the ones in Essex near the A12 were for field guns , S, they are quite big and open , but most positions were offered some old spigot mortar or AT rifle ... * shudders * K

We have 4 of these where I work. 3 are identical to the ones photographed above the only difference is they have an outside anti air gun placement for the .303 vickers machine gun. They are in a triangle formation with a much larger HQ building in the center they was used to protect the coastline from advancing enemy aircraft. And then adapted to be fitted as a secret radar station towards the end of ww2 when radar was first developed (not eating to carrots to make u see at night).

We also have numerous metal tracks dotted around that was used by the anti Air gun battery that was based here during ww2.

I forgot to take pics yesterday but will try on Monday.

 

Here is a newspaper article from when we uncovered them. I spent 3 months in them digging out 4ft of soil and rubbish that had built up over the years. But as usual the boss takes all the credit and makes no mention of the minions [emoji23]

Finally!!

Here is our examples of what you had found. The larger building was a radar station looking for western approaches whilst the smaller buildings were gun placements in a triangular shape around the larger building to protect it.

We also have anti air gun positions throughout the camp. There was a full anti air Battery based here during ww2
