Hoping someone can help me with a strange problem I'm having with a Husqvarna 335 xpt: pulling back on the chain brake makes the saw rev.  So much so that the chain spins. Adjusting the idle screw has not helped. Any ideas? Something is flexing in the saw body when I put pressure on the brake, so how on earth does that make the saw rev??

If it’s a 335 I would put money on a split carb boot and releasing the chain break opens the gap and leans the saw making it rev.. 338 was a much better saw but I can’t believe there are any 335’s still going !

I reckon Matty is spot on, easy diagnosis - start the saw, take the chain brake off, put it on the floor, hold the engine down firmly and pull the top handle around a bit so it flexes on the AV mounts. If the revs change then the manifold is the most likely culprit unless the throttle linkage has got hooked up somehow or something else is loose on the carb etc.

Thanks gents! That makes perfect sense.

I was given the saw for free so I can't complain! I am willing to put a bit of money into small repairs so I'll see what a new intake boot will run me !:thumbup1:
