Thanks very much everyone for sharing your experience & advice.  Backed up by some of the comments made, I was able to get the seller to come down to a more realistic price so I went for it.  Still probably paid a bit over the odds but am happy to be able to get started right away as  my goats' needs for more outbuildings is pressing.

Will start keeping an eye out for cheap spares.  Managed to download an 084 parts list & an 088 service manual till I can find  one for 084s.

Thanks again all!

950 is relatively high for second hand but also expect he will get it.

I have an 084 and a 880. Some parts are compatible but there are definitely parts which aren't like cylinders air filter shrouds etc. Common parts like piston clutch needle bearing etc are compatible.

For reference I found an 880 for £650 with a 36 and 25 inch bar.

Personally if you can I so I get an 880. But if you find a cheap 084 or 076 there are plenty parts out there for them and they will get the job done. On a budget I think Rob d on here (chainsawbars.co.uk) sells budget mills . How wide do you need to mill? 36" should do those things.

If you go 084 I have a couple of cylinders available. Also was thinking of selling 076 if your interested?

Hi Bill do you still have an 084 cylinder for sale? Is it new or used and an original item or aftermarket. Does it come with a piston? How much shipped to IRELAND

thanks

Yes pal have a new OEM piston and cylinder and a used good condition cylinder which spud has popped a helicoil in one of the exhaust threads, so that should be fine.
