i recently baught a 394 husky, when i baught it i started it... full choke fired up second pull, half choke one pull, let it warm up and she was singing!! next morning, i fired it up again, all was well... came back to it a few days later, and i couldnt get it started, checked the spark (nice and big) checked compression (lots of it) and then i realised it must be fuel starvation, it definately isnt over fueling, the plug was bone dry, so i cleaned the carb out, and checked the fuel filter, now i just need to re-assemble it,

Has anyone else had a similar problem?

i took the whole saw apart and above the fuel outlet pipe for the carb there is a hole, if i try to pressurise the tank by putting the filler cap on and blowing down the outlet pipe, the air escapes through the above mentioned hole...

i am lost now and could do with some advice... any help would be much appreciated, JR

I think the hole you discribe may be the tank breather, to let air in so it doesn't create a vacum in the tank when running,

have you tried running it since you stripped the carb down as from your post it doesn't sound like you have?

hey Charlie

yes i believe it would be the breather, should this not have a one way valve or something inside it? mine is empty and you can either blow or suck on the outlet pipe and it will expell air...

so i dont wish to rebuild it until i no what to do regarding this 'breather' hole...

cheers Josh

i have a picture but i am not sure how to upload it to the post...

not sure what goes in the newer ones as i havent had one of my newer huskies to bits but the older ones, had a small filter that pushed in there, that looked like the head of a cotton wool bud.

I would also be tempted to replace the fuel line whilst you have it in pieces incase its has perished where it comes out the tank and that could also lead to air leaks, its a cheap part and worth doing if you tidying the whole thing up, also check the impulse hose as well, order these two and the tank vent assembly from your dealer they shouldnt be more than £20 and it will eliminate that from your problem list,

thankyou for you input, what may i ask is an impulse hose? i have the one fuel line that goes into the carb, and then the hole where the tank vent assembly goes...

all my strimmers and hedgecutters have fuel out and fuel return lines , but this only has a tank output to the carb, is this correct for my saw, or should there be a return,

fuel line has been replaced, as has the fuel filter, so i need a tank vent assembly? if this is missing how come it ran when i baught it, but now i have no such luck in starting it?
