Gorse Clearance

I have a large area of Gorse to clear of varying ages/heights. It is on a SSSI heathland so all the materail has to be taken off site. Has anyone got any suggestions to go about this?

 

I have already thought of:

- Chainsaw then chip

- Chainsaw then burn

- Forest mulcher and then use a digger to scrape off all the arisings etc (would this work?

 

Does anyone else have any experience thoughts on how to go about this horrible task??

I'd go for the mulcher option, chainsaw and chipper is just too much pain

I know of a guy who has a tracked machine with a flail which collects the arisings, may be the answer.

Would the digger be able to clean up all the arisings though without taking off the top surface of the soil?

With one of those sifty type blades used in forestry that leave the soil behind, it could be piled up in a heap then removed. Now what the name of those blades, d'oh bloomin alzheimers:blushing:

if youre allowed to burn, burn it! cut it all, then load a bonfire with tractor and silage grab . . .just dont set fire to the heath!

what about a box of swan vestas and the sun

 

have you to remove it so it wont grow back? i cut some right to the ground a year ago and its starting to come back. mulchers probibly your best option if its a big enough site

It doesnt matter if it grows back as we want gorse of varying ages - its going to be cut on rotation every couple of years.
