That sounds like a challenge!

Seriously though, is it?

I doubt any network is totally secure to the very determined and knowledgeable but the PNN network is used for inhouse confidential information and documents and I never heard of it being hacked etc.

Every cop in the country has a PNN e-mail address.

I can't see how anyone could benefit from knowing the serial number? So I reckon it's legit and deserves full cooperation?

I feel a bit p,off helping the police to tell the truth, the reason I bought the saw was because my sheds got done over a few months before buying it. Around £5gs of saws/h/cutters/blower etc and all the police could do was say to me over the phone "well , theres not a lot we can do". Anyway if after further investigation this letter is cosher I will supply them with all details and hopefully could stop some elses gear being nicked.

I had something similar a few years ago after an attempted eBay purchase, from BTP investigating the theft of tools from railway worksites. Fortunately on this occasion the vendor (or thieving scumbag, if you prefer) had failed to supply the item concerned and Paypal had already reimbursed my hard-earned.

In my view any initiative by the Police to counter tool theft, however inadequate, and however overdue, is commendable and should be supported.
