Again no, where you getting this 'adding the weight' from ? Please link up to the regs on that. I've already said multiple times axle limits should must be observed.

The GTW for the downplated daily is 10.5 ton or 10.8 for the auto not 7 as you suggest, not sure where you are getting that from, more than enough for 5-6 ton of cargo.

Also you seem to have an issue with 'drawbars' whats that about ? Again link up the regs.

The vehicle remains 3.5 ton irrespective of how much weight is on the trailer.

I think I've repeated this enough now

If its an artic the about 1/3 of the wright is applied to the vehicle. That becomes part of its weight so the vehicle needs a MAM that includes it.

If you get stopped & weighed they will take the front & rear axle weights & add them together. If that is over the MAM (3500kg) then your nicked.

That will include the imposed loads from the 5th wheel.

You can be within your axle loads but over your total MAM even on a car.

They tend to have about 40kg of movable balance weight between front & rear before the load would exceed the axle limits. Max out both axles & your over the MAM.

If the vehicles MAM is down plated so will the tow capacity / GTW.

Downplating becomes difficult under 12 tonnes as you have to justify your need

"Downplating to the significant legal

thresholds of 7.5 tonnes/3.5 tonnes or

below can only be carried out on the

basis of physical alterations being made

to the vehicle (as in the past)"

Yes but he was talking about moving a digger and using it on site so he has the 100km exemption for a smaller vehicle, no exemptions over 7500kg

True. Loosing track of the point of the thread and just making snap comments re the posts I see.

With a 5000kg digger he is def going to be over 7500kg.

Never tried or looked at doing it re a vehicle. On a class O1 or O2 trailer anyone can do it.
