Hi everyone, i was looking into getting a new climbing system, i would preferably like something under £50.

 

So far i have thought about getting a hitch climber set up. But could i get a foot ascender and use that with a prusik?

i climb on an ocean polyester prussock with a ct foot ascender when required. never got the hang of hitch climber with vt or anything, but would also like to one day, just sitting in the bag.

 

foot ascenders arent supposed to be load bearing in that you wouldnt want to take your prussock off while using one, as i understand it, but you would never really need to. obviously they are strong enough to take you weight as you ascend though, with a prussock/whatever you use still attached to yer rope. is that what you mean?

Would be tight gettin a hitch climber set up for 50 quid.

A foot ascender works with a prussik fine,just be sure to load the prussik before you take your weight of the ascender.

Im not sure what you mean by is an ascender weight bearing?

If you mean can it be used as life support ie the piece of equipment thats keeping you in the tree then no.

Life support must be by your rope/prussik or hitch.

I have some spare equipment,dmm triple attachment pulley, teufel berger eye to eye hitch cord and a pantin foot ascender i could give you for a decent price-under 50 quid anyway.The eye to eye is new and unused the pulley is not lolered but in nearly new condition and the pantin is used but works great.

Thanks guys, i was being a bit stupid by weight bearing i ment can it hold my weight (75kg) or would it snap? But i guess that was an obvious question, thanks again [emoji106]

Save up and buy a zigzag

Second that, I am new zigzag convert. Just ditched 13mm rope and dropped to 11.7mm, the self tending, ease of use, built in swivel, great device. Hitch climb seems hard work in comparison.
