If thats mechanically good you should hold onto it . Had a couple back in the day and despite massive usage they really stood up to the work . Id have a 16 inch bar on at spruce for months and switch to a 20 inch for elm during the Dutch elm disease carnage .

Id say i wore out a dozen bars on each saw and they were both still going well enough to sell on .

You hit the nail on the head with keeping it for a back up saw .

I still have a magnum version , it's a real good machine , hard as nails and has never had a problem.

They just don't make them like that anymore , get it bought

I had a 038av for years,sat for 4 months and started after a couple of pulls...love those saws.

Really heavy on the hand and arm vibrations though.
