Is it true if you smear butter on it it takes all the resin and crap off??

 

Olive oil or butter helps to break down resin something to do with the fatty acids i believe but don't qoute me on that.

 

I wouldn,t use normal washing powder, i'm sure its not a problem to use it its just not reccomended. You can either buy dedicated rope wash for dynamic rope (they do static rope wash to i think) personally i use soap flakes these are great for technical waterproofs too like gor-tex its cheap and availible from Tescos so worth getting.

Depending on how soiled the rope is i'd either just wash it without any soap flakes or for very soiled rope with soap on delicates setting, if badly covered in resin use either butter or olive oil and leave over night before washing.

Why is good old non bio persil NOT reccomended?

I have put it in a pillow case twice now and TBH all that happens is it comes out of the pillow case and is no better than when it went in.

 

Im not worried about the machine- my missus puts horse rugs in it, covered in hair, sht and mud, and its still going strong after 8 yrs:thumbup:, i just want to get my rope so that when it gets wet the prussic doesnt jam up. In the dry its not toooo bad, but when wet its almost unuseable.

Nah- i have that yellowy green and black gecko stuff. Its ok and always has been, except that a few months ago (when i started this thread) i climbed the slimiest filthy wet thing i have ever seen, and since then it has ben hideous.

 

Recommendations for prussic?

hmmm not good mate , i must admit i climbed an 85-90 foot pine with my lock jack and a soaking wet rope - lets just say it was interesting , well actually no it was not it was in fact not nice at all as it was all or noting with the lock jack lol (that was on that pine up at Paul cemeterry )

i make a big daisy chain and chuck it in, at the other end i may have a slight tangle to sort out byt not much

Do you not bother with the pillow case Jamie? My rope came out tangled to buggery so i am not too worried about a slight tangle.

the main reason pillow case is recomended is the drum gets rather warm so just a layer between rope and drum

even on low heat they get warm

i have a weaver rope wash bag which is basically fine netting so better than a pillowcase

as before i will highly recommend the BEAL ropewash available from most arb and rock climbing shops

designed for washing ropes so no worries:thumbup::thumbup:
