Is a >6" chipper needed?

I run a jobeau m500 and trailer and have done for several years now. It's surprising how little processing is actually required with this machine due to its wide hopper. Yes it is a bit more work and effort but it's a good machine none the less and certainly earns it's keep. It'll make chip faster than a tw125 and block less but due to the lack of feed rollers it is a bit more effort to do so. Quantity wise, I've done several days where I have produced 20+ cube of chip a day so if you've a mind to you can chip a serious amount of material in a day. In my opinion, if you are just starting out a little gravity fed chipper is a great starting point and gives you a feel for the industry and running your own business without the massive out lay of a big chipper. A final point I would like to make regarding the m500 is that if you act as an antistress so to speak ie: pull the log back before the engine dies too much, it will take more than 5" although I tend not to do that much as that's a log anyway

Thank, I'm definitely going to look into them. How do you transport it, on a trailer? If so, where do you put your chip?

And I agree, everything over 4" is firewood!

I have a custom made trailer. The chipper sits on the front and chip strait into a tipping chip box on the back. Here's a link to a video I made of the chipper, it's quite long so feel free to skip through but it gives a really good idea of its capabilities
