Using MEWP's

Can anybody enlighten me as to what my local council are on about?

I rang them earlier to set up an emergency road closure so I can remove some wind blown trees with the aid of a MEWP. The council highways fella on the phone said I will need a license to use the MEWP, I told him I have the relevant IPAF card to use the platform and he said that is not what he means, he says it requires a permit similar to a scafftag. I told him I've never heard that before and asked him to explain what is is and how I'd get one, he couldn't provide anything other than telling me I'd need one.

I've since spoken to the MEWP hire company and they've also never heard anything like it.

Anybody have any idea what he's referring too or is he getting his wires crossed?

Who issues these? If it's the council I would expect them to know exactly what it is and where I would acquire one from.

council issue them

just look up the relevant local council and go to permits

it will probably be in with the likes of skip permits traffic management permits

materials on the road permits

As an example, here is a link to the LA webpage for Cornwall. Yours should have something similar

Cheers Kevin, I did a bit of digging earlier on the councils website and I have hopefully emailed the relevant department.
