Freelance Tree inspections

Hi guys, I'm currently doing some speculative research into business planning and wondered if freelance inspectors were in demand or indeed if anyone undertook this kind of work replacing council tree officers etc. I'm also thinking of putting an environmental spin on inspections and would like to look at developing bat inspection services. Any advice or feedback would be greatly appreciated.

I was using someone (Island) to take the load of me, until he left for india.... So if you can do BS5837 AIA's or hazard surveys and can travel to the east midlands give me a call...

Hi benedmonds, thanks for your reply however I'm carrying out a viability study to see if this would be a suitable direction for me to take and would need to invest in attaining official competencies to undertake this role. Shame I don't already have accreditation as I'm searching for a new position and assume I'm quite close to you? Thanks again Dave

I did the lanta basic tree inspection this year, as a client wanted a survey doing. This was the required so that my insurers would give me Professional Indemnity insurance. I did the course via the AA. I think that would enable you to do Hazard assessments for the guy Ben.

It might be a good stepping stone to doing the PTI course.

All the best with it.

The basic tree inspection course is for people such as highway engineers so they can spot obvious defects while doing their job. You need PTI really if you want to get in with tree surveying companies. 5837 is also a separate subject altogether. There is also UA5 you could look at although its not my thing really.

Good luck

Thanks guys, Ive got my name down for the basic PTI with the plan of attempting the main award however I'm not totally familiar with 5837. The bat licensing qualification looks like it costs a fair amount, I think I may contact my local bat group to see if I can build up a portfolio that way. Thanks again,Dave
