Have you got a faceplate and a chuck? with these you can turn most things you want. I hot glue my blanks(you can screw them) to the face plate, gouge flat the tailstock end of the work, form a central recess of a diameterdepth to suit the chuck jaws, the piece is reversed and your chuck jaws fitted into the recess formed and opened to hold the piece on the circumferencs of recess, this mount will be later hollowed out to form the inside of the bowl, after you have turned the base ( with another recess), and the sides.release bowl from chuck, refitting it to the base recess now formed and hollow out the inside of the bowl. so you will need an expanding chuck, and a faceplate. if this is confusing I can post pics of process! Hope this helps.

To be honest if you buy a 4" plate that will turn most things bowls, goblets just allow extra wood for the screws and then part bowl or goblet off. once you get going you can buy a chuck because it can get very expensive.

What tools do you have??

Another thing which is good to get for the tail stock is a revolving center.
