Hi All! I'm looking for some help with a little 135 that I have acquired :blushing:

 

The chain turns when I pull the starter, and also when the saw is running. A bit of internet research makes me think that the clutch is at fault and needs replacing.

 

No issues with doing that, but - the clutch which is currently on the saw looks like this one: HUSQVARNA 235/E,236/E,240/E - GENUINE CLUTCH ASSEMBLY | eBay

 

But from what I can see on the parts diagram here http://www.power-garden.ru/upload/iblock/47f/47f4663d9a92f3b5b758806194923f28.pdf it is different, and seems to share the part number of the 435.

 

Does anyone know if the part has been superseded, or if I've got the wrong clutch fitted to the saw at present?

Take the clutch off and check the oil pump drive is spinning freely on the crank. Mine stuck on after it was stood for a few weeks. I pulled it and cleaned the inside up with 240 grit emery till it slid on freely then greased it and built it back up and it's been fine for the last couple of years.

The 135 is using the Poulon clutch that does come from the 235/236 and 3/8 low profile chain rather than the .325 on the 435, the saws are almost identical other than that.

Thanks for the replies everyone!

 

I've finally managed to get the time to get the saw apart. Clutch spring looks like this:

It looks quite stretched at both the top and bottom (the picture makes it look better than it is!) and isn't snapping back into place.

 

However - this is the first time i've ever really seen a chainsaw clutch spring so I am not exactly sure how they are meant to look :laugh1:

 

Am I on the right track here?

 

Also - there was a suggestion to check the oil pump drive - what would be involved in that?

Oil pump drive is behind the clutch. When the clutch and drum are off and the bearing you will see a brown plastic circle. Spin it out and it should rotate freely on the crank. Mine was stuck till I freed it off and was causing the chain to run on tickover. The springs don't exactly snap but it's an easy swap so do it anyway.

Ah found it - thanks! It doesn't look to be in the best of condition - has a bit of the plastic around the edge peeling away and it is definitely not spinning freely - it does move but needs quite a bit of force.

Get some 240 grit wet and dry round your finger with oil on and rub the inside. Keep trying it till it spins then clean it out and put a blob of grease in and refit it or just fit a new one :thumbup:
