I've the previous generation, 3.0 auto, with the extras, tows perfectly fine imo, I think it's a great truck, brought it purely because of the reliability reputation, and in the 60k km I've done in 18months, just a headlight bulb has gone. short service intervals compared to some vehicles though.

10k service intervals is no bad thing for the Hilux, it swung me to it - rather than away from it

Good oil is cheap engineering and maintenance

I also have a 2016 3.0litre Auto and it's fine but less than 2000 miles so far, so maybe too early to comment

All I can say, I tried the new 2.4 litre manual Hilux and missed the 3.0litre grunt (although the 2.4 is supposedly higher, but it didn't drive like it) and didn't want the AdBlue of the 2.4 and annoying keyless either

My 3 litre manual tows a 12x6 ifor tipper without any issues.

Can anyone say what's involved in getting them plated to 3.5 from 2.8 tonnes. ?

Are any modifications required ?

Never have had a convincing definitive answer as to why these pick ups are not rated to 3.5 in the first place.
